TURBOCHARGER TESTING, REPAIRS & RECONDITIONING IN CAPE TOWN

A properly serviced turbocharger can help protect your engine and restore lost performance.

At JEG Diesel, we provide expert turbocharger testing, inspection, diagnostics, repair and reconditioning for diesel vehicles across Cape Town and the Western Cape.

With over 50 years of diesel engineering experience, we accurately diagnose turbo faults and restore reliable performance using advanced diagnostic equipment and precision high-speed balancing. Correct balancing is critical to turbo longevity and helps prevent premature failure and engine damage.

Where the turbocharger is still structurally sound, refurbishment is often substantially more cost-effective than replacement – while delivering comparable performance. All reconditioned turbochargers come with a 6-month / 10 000 km warranty.

Book a turbo inspection if you notice:

  • reduced boost pressure
  • whining, whistling or grinding noises
  • excessive exhaust smoke
  • oil leaks from the turbo housing or intercooler piping
  • sluggish acceleration or loss of power

Early diagnosis can prevent further engine and engine management system damage.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How much does turbo reconditioning cost in Cape Town?

The cost depends on the turbo type, the extent of wear and which components need replacing. Reconditioning is typically substantially more affordable than a new replacement unit. We can assist by providing an accurate assessment and quote.

How long does turbo repair take?

Turnaround depends on the condition of the turbo and parts availability. More complex systems such as bi-turbo or twin-turbo setups may take longer. We will provide a clear timeframe before any work begins.

Can a reconditioned turbo perform as well as a new one?

Yes. When correctly rebuilt and precisely balanced, a reconditioned turbo can deliver performance comparable to a new unit. Precision balancing is critical to long-term reliability and helps prevent premature failure.

What causes diesel injectors to fail?

The most common causes of diesel injector failure include contaminated or poor-quality fuel, worn internal components, high mileage and extended service intervals.

Common rail injectors operate with extremely fine tolerances and high fuel pressures, making them particularly sensitive to fuel quality and contamination.

Regular maintenance, using the correct fuel grade and replacing fuel filters at the recommended intervals can help extend injector life and reduce the risk of premature failure.

What causes turbo failure?

The most common cause is oil starvation, often due to delayed oil changes, blocked oil feed lines or low oil pressure. Contaminated oil, worn bearings, foreign object damage and high mileage are also common causes.

Identifying and resolving the root cause before fitting a replacement or reconditioned turbo is essential to prevent repeat failure.

Do I need to replace my turbo, or can it be repaired?

In many cases, a turbocharger can be successfully reconditioned if the main housing and core components are still serviceable. We will assess the condition of your turbo and advise honestly on whether repair or replacement is the best option.

Do you assess turbos that are still under warranty?

Yes. We can inspect and test turbochargers regardless of where they were supplied or previously repaired. If required, we can provide a diagnostic report to support a warranty claim.

Can you remove and refit the turbocharger, or do I need to bring it in separately?

We can handle removal and refitting in our workshop, so there is no need to arrive with the turbo already removed. If preferred, you can also courier the turbocharger to us directly.

Do you repair turbos for trucks, fleet vehicles and heavy equipment?

Yes. We service turbochargers across all vehicle categories, including passenger vehicles, light commercial vehicles, trucks, fleet vehicles, construction and agricultural machinery and marine diesel engines.
